If there are times when you have trouble understanding a particular passage, then you can look to these Bible aids to help you out. It will help guide you in your study of the Scripture because it provides an interpretation for almost all of the Bible verses as well as their meaning. If you are a serious student of the Scripture, having one of these aids will truly be beneficial.
1. "The Illustrated Guide to Biblical History" by Kendell Easley
This book will provide you with a general overview of how our Christian faith came about. It is presented in illustrations making it so much easier to understand. You can locate people as well as the map out the events and timeline as they happened in the Bible. Colored photographs and maps included in this book, helps to make the learning process easier since you can actually see where these things happened.
2. "The Three-In-One Bible Reference Companion" by Thomas Nelson
As far as Bible reference books go, this is one of my most favorite. It combines a concordance, topic index as well as dictionary in one book. Looking up the meaning of a word is easy since it has a dictionary and underneath the word you will find the Scripture that contains that word. The topics are listed down alphabetically so it makes it easier to find the right topic. You can find all the most important words in the Bible in this book.
3. "Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary" edited by Trent Butler
Since it first came out in 1991, this book has become a bestseller and one of the most sought after and used Bible reference tool. It contains 600 full color pictures as well as all the main words in the Bible. Charts as well as illustrations are also provided that will help in explaining the meaning of the words. Moreover, this book contains some of the most updated archaeological information about the excavations in Jerusalem.

4. "Holman Bible Handbook" by David Dockery
This is one comprehensive book. It goes on to each of the 66 books in the Bible and provides a commentary on the major themes that it has. You will also find plenty of illustrations, full-color pictures as well as charts and maps of events and places that are mentioned in the Bible. Beginners will surely benefit from this since the format is done in a simple and easy to understand manner. It compiles all the information you will need in understanding the Bible, saving you plenty of time if you had to do the research for yourself.
5. "King James Version Bible Commentary" by Ed Hindson
Even though there are so many good commentaries available out there, I would vote for this one as one of the best. You can use this book even if you prefer the other translations. This book is so helpful since it will interpret every single verse in the Bible, literally, for you to understand. Even though I own several reference books this is the first one that gets opened first if I have any questions or any Scripture I need an explanation on. I would recommend this book for your reference as well.
6. "The Hayford Bible Handbook" by Jack Hayford
In my opinion, Jack Hayford is one of the best Bible teachers and scholar we have today. The book is divided into two parts; the first part provides every single Scripture as well as its interpretation. On the other hand, the second part of this book provides good definition, commentaries and explanations about the keywords and phrases that were used in the Bible. He is truly blessed by the Lord with wealth and knowledge about His Word.
7. "Tyndale Bible Dictionary" by Walter Elwell
This is another book to add in the roster of exceptional Bible dictionaries. Not only does this book provide definitions for the main words in the Bible, but it also provides actual commentaries to help you understand what these specific words mean. Provided with beautiful maps at the end, all 1332 pages of this book is a sure help for anything that you might want to look for in terms of Scripture and events in the Bible. Surely another great Bible reference that can help all people that are looking for a better understanding of the Word, find its meaning.
8. "Believer's Bible Commentary" by Arthur Farstad
Placed in a very nice and easy to follow format, this book will help you understand the Bible by providing an interpretation for every single Scripture passage. This is the one I use alongside the King James Version Bible Commentary I mentioned earlier. I always make it a point to refer to more than one commentary when I try and find out the meaning of the Scriptures from the Bible.
9. "Holman's Concise Bible Commentary" by David Dockery
This book might be smaller and more compact than the rest of the Bible commentaries I mentioned, but don’t let that fool you. It is actually packed with great information as well. It provides commentaries on some of the main Scriptures in the Bible. This book is the third one in my library that I consult along with the two commentaries I mentioned above. At 681 pages only, it is still packed with great information and knowledge.
